Horizon Hobbies Aerotow, Monticello IL

Hi guys,

We just returned from a week long trip out to the flat lands of the Midwest. Each year, Horizon Hobbies hosts a huge aerotow event that draws pilots from all over the country. This was the 13th year they have hosted the event and my 5th trip out there.
It takes 17hrs to drive out and 985 miles, door to door one way. The weather was fantastic this year and attendance was strong. Starting on a Thursday ( we actually start flying Wednesday) and running right through Sunday evening, this event is the other premier event in the USA besides the New England Aerotow.

Saturday evening is a big BBQ and award ceremony in which we were honored with a "Blanik Achievement Award" for having the best Blanik at the event. The Blanik is a sailplane (4.2 m ) that Horizon offers in a Red Bull graphic scheme. I didn't want the RED BULL scheme, so I stripped off the livery and created my own look. A little paint and covering produced a delightfully different look.

Here are some photos from the event
