Walter, as a reminder, make sure you get the sanction for both Saturday and Sunday even if you are only planing a one day event with a rain date.  I am thrilled you folks are putting on an exclusive Heli event.  Thanks.  Fred

Sale Items / Super Tiger 2000
« on: October 05, 2014, 05:35:05 am »
Used Super Tiger 2000 in great shape.  This engine has excellent compression and has been taken very good care of.  It is a candidate for conversion to gas using CH Ignitions conversion kits.  $100.00 OBO & a conversion kit costs about $70,00 so for less then  $200.00 you wold have a powerful 30cc engine that would work great in a 1/4 scale clipped wing Taylorcraft or Super Cub.

If interested contact Dave Pratt 860-889-7862 or e-mail: upinfront@sbcglobal.net

General Discussion / Re: Helicopter Flyers and Heli Field
« on: August 19, 2014, 02:04:18 pm »
Walter:  The comments I made in the news letter were not and are not intended to describe any bad behavior, in fact what I was trying to suggest is for the heli guys to get more involved with the overall club, its planning, its events, its maintenance, officer positions and whatever else come to mine.  Frankly, what sparked my comments was at the last sanctioned memorial event, a couple of heli guys went to the heli field and did not check in.  As you know  this is not acceptable to the AMA or me as the CD of this event.  I had to go back to the heli field to correct this so my inspiration was to make some comments with the hope that all members flying helis or fixed wing would take your example and become more involved with the workings of the club & its support.  I would also like to see more heli guys in the club and continue to improve the heli field.  This can best happen with more involvement by the heli guys throughout the club.

Regarding the comment in the minutes, our field Marshall was informed by complaints from our landlord, about the ruts and widening of the path to the heli field.  We all are well aware of the cause of the ruts that caused the Landlord to take notice and our Field Marshall quickly fixed the problem & removed the issue, & incidentally, it would have been great of the heli guys instigated fixing the road problem.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you but if you still need help, when are you available?  Did you come to the Memorial event at the field this weekend?

Andre:

What trainer is it, do you have the servos, receiver, batteries, what motor, necessary tools, etc.  Where do you live?  I would be happy to help you put it together so you gain some experience.

General Discussion / Re: Glow ENginnes Converted to Gas
« on: June 03, 2014, 05:58:49 pm »
We have run the Engine and did run into a problem with the Exhaust Valve sticking.  We think that is because, although new, the engine has been sitting for several years & I used the wrong oil in the gas mix.  Ron Czikowsky took care of the problem and we ran another 550cc of 20/1 gas through it using Redline Oil this time, and it ran very well.  When broken in we expect an idle of about 1500 rpm with a heavier prop and probably close to 8k top end with an 18 x 6 prop.  Currently with a 17 x 6 light wood prop 20/1 mix with low test gas, idle about 2K top about 7.6K.  Now, what to mount it it in, maybe a Giant Scale Planes Fiberglass Hellcat?

Can't wait to see it fly.  Will it be a 3D aircraft?

That is still an open issue and we are working on it.  Bernie reported the progress being made by the committee at the April 15thy meeting.  For the moment, I will see if we can insert a weather link to the closet weather station to out field so at least yo can get temp, wind, velocity, & conditions.  That's the best we can do for now.

General Discussion / Glow ENginnes Converted to Gas
« on: April 18, 2014, 04:15:50 pm »
Just purchased a Ch Ignition conversion kit for larger Saito engines.   I will be converting a Saito 1.80 Golden Knight to run on Gasoline.  CH suggests the rpm will be lower but 500-1000 rpm so it will be interesting to see how this converted engine performs.  I have solicited Ron Czikowsky to be sure we have 2 sets of eyes and hands performing the conversion.  It does appear simple & the only real issue is getting the timing correct.  Another interesting comment suggested by CH is converting a glow engine to CDI will result in a more reliable lower RPM, usually results a in a gain of a couple of hundred RPM at the top end, with a fuel economy increase of up to 25%.

Should be a great flier.  Bernie Liskov has Canidair 415 twin water bomber & had a couple of problems with it the first time he tried to fly it.
