General Discussion / Who knows what about lost plane gps locations???
« Last post by bobmct on August 10, 2014, 10:09:24 pm »
Not that I've ever lost one (sure!) but I'm researching what devices are available for this issue.  I've heard of gps receivers that can transmit its location to one's smart phone but perhaps there are other methods.  And the typical beeping locators are so quiet one would have to be stepping on the plane to hear it!    If anyone reading this has heard of anything available please post some info and hopefully a link as many, I'm sure, would like to know as well.

Thanks

Kyle,
I just got a Libelle from Quantum Hobby, I went with his suggestion of a 2 cell 550 mah Lipo pack and a ZTW 3 amp bec. I picked up the new type servos from Dream flight. He indicated that you had gone the lipo/bec route & I was wondering, if I could  see your layout or a picture of it?

General Discussion / Re: Helicopter Flyers and Heli Field
« Last post by Ed Deming on July 20, 2014, 09:02:31 am »
Walt, I was a bit surprised by the note, as well, but I've spoken with Fred, and think he was just trying to get some discussion going and prompt a bit more interaction. The not driving on the hay (quite a stretch, since that one car-width path around the sink-hole that had developed in the normal path from the rains) seemed a bit odd, but with the hole filled, we're back to the straight & narrow path. There was no other way to get to our side, and that one car wide strip of grass wasn't really harvestable hay, anyways.

I am a heli-only guy, but very much enjoy the company and interaction with the plane side and frequently wander over to watch and chat, and thoroughly enjoy it when the plane guys come over to the heli field to see what we're up to, as well. Could we heli-guys be more social? Sure. Could we pitch in more with field maintenance? Definitely. Are we trying to be anti-social and isolationist? I don't think so, but it makes sense to keep trying to maintain the club unity with a bit more interaction. Our club is pretty unique with having two fields, and I think, has a really good relationship between the heli and plane guys, partly from not having the competition for air time that other clubs do without a second field. That's something for the club to be proud of and to keep going.

General Discussion / Helicopter Flyers and Heli Field

In the most recent club newsletter there is paragraph describing the behavior of some heli flyers as not being OK. This needs to be clarified as to what issues the club as a whole is having with the flyers and anything else that is not OK. I've been down this road before and this can not be left to fester and grow worse. I consider myself an all around flyer and partake in several different types of rc flying. I do tend to fly more helicopter than anything else at present but this has nothing to do with trying to be non social with the fixed wing side of the field. I was under the impression that it was the clubs idea to have a second field to seperate the helis from the planes. I'm sure this was voted upon by the membership and was accepted by all as a great solution to having to different types of flying that really dont work well on the same field. I really to appreaciate being able to fly my helis on a seperate field as I'm sure the fixed wing guys do also. If there is really a problem with us heli flyers please send out an email to the membership and lets get together and fix the problem ASAP. There was an issue about cars driving on the hay on the heli side when I inquired about this I was told it was one of the non club member pylon racers that caused the damage if this is true please clear this up in a future newsletter. Sorry for venting like this usually I'm the quiet one but this really hits home been flying helis since 1983 would hate to see another lost flying spot due to a misunderstanding. Walter  :(

I too, am putting a Carbon Cub together.  Len, you are an inspiration.  Len made a carbon hatch for my Cub.  It goes just behind the wing and provides greater access to the radio and batteries.  Plus it looks cool.

thanks Len

Sorry it took so long to get back to you but if you still need help, when are you available?  Did you come to the Memorial event at the field this weekend?

General Discussion / Aeroworks 100cc Carbon Cub, HERE WE GO AGAIN
« Last post by Len on June 09, 2014, 10:56:12 pm »
Here we go again.

After an unfortunate situation destroyed my last CARBON CUB a couple weeks ago at the New England Aerotow,  the new kit arrived today in a huge crate and in perfect condition.
Thanks to Aeroworks for stepping up and helping to put this new plane in our shop. Most would have run and hid.

So, I've chosen to do another thread on this plane for two reasons.

1) Some things have changes in the kit, so I will highlight those changes.

2) It's therapeutic for me... I enjoy sharing and getting ideas from my friends.

To start, I pulled the fuse out of the box and took the windscreen off. I'm going to make another carbon hatch on top like the previous plane.
Cover the area you want to mold with duct tape, which will act as a release agent.

A layer of mat cloth was wet out and laid down, then 4 layers of carbon fiber.

The rest of the evening was dedicated to planning things out. I'll be using TD110H ( rear dump ) canisters with 70mm drop flex headers. A DA 150 will be the power of choice and I found a NIB PowerBox for handling the distribution of power to the servos and regulating the batteries
Another 3 blade prop ( 28.5x12 ) carbon fiber will be used for thrust.

Its great to have another Carbon Cub in the shop!!!

That's it for today.
